tiny transforming apartment {wow}

this makes my head spin

and reminds me of this

i wonder what sort of feng shui rules are broken
in a space that transforms itself like this.
do you know?

could you live this way?

~ half-mast ~

my blog is flying at half-mast.
my dear friend's husband passed away today.
he was surrounded by his adoring wife
and two grown children.
this celtic knot of four interlocking hearts
represents their family.
i am sending gentle hugs
and my deepest sympathy.

:: charm necklace love ::

my very talented friend, emily,
for my mom
she was able to incorporate lots of
sentimental jewelry that my mom mailed to her.
using her charm-layering genius,
emily added to and combined the pieces
into this wearable work of art.
see more photos of it here.

emily discovers pieces from the past, then
re-imagines them into something new & amazing.
it is such a beautiful way to
reduce, reuse, and recycle.
see her entire shop here.

these are other charm necklaces she has sold
you can see the listings and more photos
here: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 {#5 is mine!}, 6

and these are for sale in her shop right now
{links to etsy listings are below each image}

{here, though it's spoken for}

{here}

are you holding on to bits and pieces
of special vintage jewelry?
let emily turn them into something amazing
that you'll have so much fun wearing.

thank you, emily, for creating such
a fabulous necklace for my mom!
it is perfect!!

sweater coat

check out this sweater coat from athleta
i've had my eye on it since last fall.
it is now on sale for 60% off
{was $150, now $60, plus free shipping}
i bought it in my favorite color,
and i predict i'll wear the heck out of it.
it does come in two other colors:

i have another sweater coat {from tracy porter}
that i have worn for two winters - love it.
it is so comfy & soft & warm.
perfect for fall-winter-spring.

:: a few natural beauties ::

this lip balm
has been my summer favorite
very neutral,
shimmer-y, summer-y, bronze-y.
i buy it at the boise co-op,
but you can find it here.

i still have my favorite scent,
but it pairs well with
this handmade scent
from etsy seller amy karol.

my favorite also pairs well with
this solid rosy scent
also from the co-op,
but you can find it here.

i use this face cream morning & night,
all year round.
thick, rich, buttery, lemony
◄-l-o-v-e-►
the first two ingredients: unconditional love & gratitude
from the boise co-op, but also here.

and i use this facial sunscreen
all year round
yes, it's from the boise co-op,
but you can find it here.

~ : ~ : ~ : ~ : ~ : ~

i have found these special products
by doing my own research.
i use them all, and love each of them.
that is my own honest opinion.
{none of these companies solicited my review of their product}
most of them can be found
at your local health food grocery store.

:: vegan super sauce :: {and my new blender}

note: updated recipe
at the bottom of this post.

an amazingly creamy vegan sauce
to use as a dip for fresh veggies,
and to pour over just about everything.
kicky, zingy, lemony...
let's call it
:: super sauce ::
this is the old version of the recipe.
see the bottom of this post for the update.
                      1/2 cup water
                      1/2 cup canola oil
                      1/2 cup lemon juice
                      1/2 cup tahini
                      1 cup cooked chick peas
                      1 cup nutritional yeast flakes
                      2 cloves fresh garlic
                      1/2 teaspoon each of these spices:

                                    pepper, celery salt, garlic powder,
                                    onion powder, basil, oregano, tarragon.
                                    and just a pinch or two of cayenne pepper.

whirl everything in a blender until creamy.
super sauce is delicious over
black beans & brown rice,
much like this sauce.
it is highly recommended
in place of mayo on black bean burgers.
it would be perfect
and it's an awesome salad dressing.

blend & enjoy!
i'm especially thinking of
gretchen, emily, jeanne, ashlyn, and my cousin stephanie.

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

did you notice my new blender?
i am a little bit in love with it.

coming soon: spinach ice cream
{it's the reason i said yes to the blender}

p.s. today is 04/02/14
and this is the updated recipe
for vegan super sauce {aka yumm sauce}.
let's just call it...
awesome sauce
awesome sauce

½ cup canola oil
½ cup cooked soybeans
½ cup cooked chick peas {garbanzos}
½ cup nutritional yeast

:: bubble tea ::

do you ever...
order a
bubble tea?
at rembrandt's on tuesday night,
marian's friend, rachel,
convinced us to try coconut bubble teas.
the "bubbles" are really giant tapioca pearls.
a huge straw is required to suck them up.
the bubbles are chewy,
like a gummy bear.
the drink was sweet & yummy,
and each time one of us got a bubble up the straw
it was a little startling
and really funny.

curious about bubble tea?
read more here and here and here.

jumpstart creativity + brave girls + rembrandt's = awesome

last night was
so. much. fun.
jess and melody explained
their personal missions
{see jess's here and melody's here}
and the limitless possibilities for the evening.
then, with tables full of supplies and inspiration,
we were turned loose,
and all sorts of amazing art started happening.

one of the highlights
was this overflowing vintage suitcase.
we were free to dig through it to find
maps & sheet music & other treasures.
{someone even found a gold watchband}
somehow it seemed to grow more and more full
throughout the night.

another big hit was this antique typewriter.
melody had a line of kids waiting for
their very own, personalized, hand-typed poem

i loved these bits of brave girl inspiration
this one is the message i need most

melody & jess

me & melody
thank you, jess & melody, for such a fun event.
{and to sandi, who made sure i didn't miss it}
