kindergarten art :: fall pumpkins

art mom : : take two
: : fall pumpkins : :

to introduce this project,
i brought along a little pumpkin
& we talked about pumpkins...
is anyone growing pumpkins in their garden?
do you know that a pumpkin is a fruit?  seeds inside = fruit
notice how the pumpkin is curvy & bumpy ~ no straight lines.

we talked about why it's good
to use recycled paper.
i brought along a whole cereal box.
i popped it open to show them
all the nifty shapes inside.

i showed them my pumpkin painting.
then i showed them the steps
{will add my step-by-step photo examples soon}
number one
a fist-print with orange paint
number two
curved lines down the front
{a black colored pencil will draw through wet paint}
number three
bumps to connect the lines
number four
a green fingerprint stem & green curly vines

~materials~
paper or cardboard
{i used the inside of recycled cereal boxes}
orange tempera paint
black & green colored pencils
green tempera paint
{we used black yarn to hang them}

~ voila! ~

p.s. the cereal box material is perfect for paint.
it doesn't get soggy the way paper can,
and the paint dried very quickly.
