my very best friend died.

it's been one year.

i do my best to not take this literally.

by that i mean, i know she's not gone.

it's just difficult for my mortal eyes

to see her now.

i get glimpses of her in the sunset.

sometimes, she sings me songs.

she visits my dreams,

usually just stepping in to give me a hug.

a lover of light,

today is her favorite day.

the longest day of the year.

she & dean were married on this day.

the summer solstice, it's hers.

if the fire department will let me,

i'm sending these up at dusk tonight.

a gesture i know she will appreciate.

i'll do my best to get it on video

& post it here later.

update: i'm saving them for the winter solstice,
when i won't start a wildfire in her honor.
