maisy is our wacky gremlin dog.
she has a certain eclectic style
{and some fantastic dance moves}
that we all love and appreciate.
maisy had surgery last week.
she had a deeeep dental cleaning
{with a few extractions - she likes to crack her teeth on rocks, apparently}
and a couple odd bumps removed.
she came home looped on opiates,
with a sore mouth,
two strips of gruesome stitches,
and the dreaded cone of shame
{to keep her from chomping said stitches}.
we quickly discovered
that maisy is un-coneable.
she is cone-challenged, if you will.
it sent her careening across the room
in wild thrashing tailspins,
flooring it in reverse until
she popped her head free.
it was really stressful.
sooooooo....
the vet recommended that i try
having her wear a t-shirt to cover the stitches.
out of sight, out of mind.
it worked okay,
but she would step on the extra fabric
and get herself all tripped and tangled up.
sooooooo....
i made her this get-up
i started with a tiny t-shirt,
trimming, pinning, and sewing it to fit her.
i cut off the sleeves and sewed them,
one inside the other, to the bottom edge
to cover the stitches on her right knee.
maisy appreciates the feminine
ruffle effect of the sleeve-leg.
she thinks it looks like a single pantaloon.
see how waggy it makes her?
it makes me waggy, too.
because, i can only be as happy as my dog.
my cone-free dog, that is.

Oh Catie, I wish I had a post like this to read (except to spare Maisy) about 9 months ago. My little Gracie had 11 teeth pulled, and Lily had to have the cone of shame. She went ballistic too! The t-shirt idea is brilliant! Hope Maisy recovers well.
Honestly, that was just way too funny. You have to know maisy personally to fully appreciate this post.-em
