marian's veggie delight

welcome to your new favorite sandwich!

- good bread or bagel, toasted -
- mashed avocado, with salt & pepper -
- grated carrot -
- chopped black olives -
- honey mustard dressing -
- chopped red onion -
this is marian's new creation
from her memory of the veggie delight
at los bagels.

inspired by finding this honey mustard dressing
at our grocery store {for less than three bucks}
which is very much like larrupin sauce.
{oh, how we miss you, larrupin}

marian made these for lunch today.
cheap, healthy,
and most of all, delicious.
go make it!

learning about honeybees

honeycomb
{you can eat the whole thing}

ned's honeycomb-inspired art
{his pearlescent watercolors are like painting with honey}

good books about beekeeping

and...
the very best information, the very best photos,
and the real reason for my bee infatuation,
are wayward spark's bee posts.
i think this was the post
that caught my attention a few years ago.
camille & henry live off-the-grid
with their two kids in western oregon.
camille is a fantastic {& fearless} photographer
and henry is {among other things}
the local bee expert.

he did the watercolor painting and the measuring.

zen bento {made at home}

brown rice
tofu
broccoli - carrots - cabbage
zen bento teriyaki sauce

there's a cute little place in my town called
you can order their bento bowls
in countless variations {even with noodles}.

we always order the tofu bento with brown rice.

it's good, simple food,
but the cost is nearly ten bucks per bowl.
staggering.
it's rare that i am willing fork over the cash.

however, the magic is all in the sauce,
and they sell it by the bottle.
"rice & veggies" is practically
my middle name, so the rest is easy.

see the menu & all the sauces here.

p.s. you can also use
any good teriyaki sauce,
like soy vay.

getting science-y

full lesson here

higgs boson
which he mentions in the video above

dipping our toes into quantum physics:
and here.

elementary particle of light,
a single quantum of light

186,000 miles per second
we've all learned this, but a refresher never hurts

simultaneously existing in multiple states
as in: yes AND no

bose-einstein condensate: herehere, and here
basically, uber-cold gasses

used bose-einstein condensate to
slow light down to 17 meters per second,
and then stopped it completely.
note: prior to her success, her peers thought the idea was crazy.
note: i love that her last name is pronounced "how?"
her wikipedia page is herebut this interview is better.

wow.

a few things

we delivered warm cookies
to our new neighbors last night.
do you know your neighbors?
neighborday is saturday, april 26.

i want to learn how to play cribbage.
do you play?
{my vintage cribbage board}

stayed up late waiting for banana bread to bake.
so worth it.

a friend who knew i was at the bottom
of the library wait-list for this book
i'm listening to it every night before bed.
next step: hang the hammock & listen al fresco.
{thank you, mary!}
