marian made these biscuits
last weekend using a recipe from
her consumer sciences {home ec} class.
they were quick & easy & really delicious.
we have eaten them in mostly breakfast-y ways,
but they would be great with soup.
i mean, really, can you imagine anything
that wouldn't be better with a biscuit?
cloud biscuits
preheat oven to 450°
2 cups flour
1 Tblsp. sugar
4 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 cup butter
1 beaten egg
2/3 cup milk
notes:
we used half whole wheat & half unbleached white flour.
recipe called for shortening, but we swapped it for butter.
we doubled this recipe.
1. sift dry ingredients
2. cut in butter {until mixture resembles coarse crumbs}
3. combine egg & milk, then add
4. stir until dough forms a ball
5. turn out onto floured surface
6. knead 20 strokes
7. roll out 3/4 inch thick {or thicker}
8. cut with biscuit cutter {or cut into squares}
9. bake for about 10 minutes, until golden brown
cutting them into squares is easier & uses all the dough.
we froze the extras for quick weekday breakfasts.
{microwave for 10 seconds, then split & toast}
